For the fourth consecutive year, Black Enterprise (BE) magazine has named MGM MIRAGE one of the 40 Best Companies for Diversity in the U.S. MGM MIRAGE is the only company in the gaming industry named to the list.

MGM MIRAGE clearly takes its diversity efforts seriously, said BE Editorial Director Sonia Alleyne. Having fostered an environment where diversity is an imperative, they have excelled in all four key areas: supplier diversity, senior management, board involvement, and employee base. We congratulate the company as one of only two companies to hit this target in 2008.

Black Enterprise praised MGM MIRAGE for developing the Diversity Champion Training Program, the first in-depth educational program of its kind in the gaming industry. The company was also one of two on the Top 40 list to outperform its peers in each of the evaluated categories: supplier diversity, senior management, corporate governance and employee population.

In order to select the best companies, BE surveyed diversity executives and CEOs of the top 1,000 publicly traded companies in the U.S., as well as diversity executives of the top 50 global companies with strong U.S. operations. Each company had the opportunity to respond to questions about their diversity practices. The companies were ranked following evaluation and consultation by the BE editorial staff.

Over the past several years MGM MIRAGE has experienced success in integrating diversity into its core business practices. In 2000, MGM MIRAGE became the gaming industry's first company to implement a voluntary diversity initiative.

MGM MIRAGE recently presented its Annual Diversity Report that highlighted the company's diversity performance in 2007. Last year, the company spent $1.7 billion on biddable goods and services with minority, women and disadvantaged enterprises (MWDBEs). In construction alone, of the $2.1 billion in expenditures, $362 million was spent with MWDBEs and $73 million was spent with women-owned businesses. Internally, the company's minority employee representation totaled more than half of the workforce at 60.8 percent. African Americans represent 12.4 percent of the workforce.

The complete list of BE's 40 Best Companies for Diversity is featured in the July issue.
