INSTITUT PAUL BOCUSE REBORN AS INSTITUT LYFE (France)

Gilles Pélisson, president, and Dominique Giraudier, general manager, unveiled yesterday the new identity and new horizons of the Institute, an event in the world of French schools.

After much speculation, the Lyon-based institution has just unveiled its new identity. A rebirth, combining a tribute to its two founders, Paul Bocuse and Gérard Pélisson, to the city of Lyon, and an acceleration of its international strategy. The Institute thus becomes Institut Lyfe, Lyon for excellence, Lyon for education, Lyon for exploration, Lyon for experience.

The Institute, which is a higher education school, research centre, professional training centre and foundation, began its transformation five years ago. 25 million investment plan was launched with the support of investors like Gérard Pélisson. The latter injected 10 million euros into the project, while the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region and the Métropole Grand Lyon provided two million euros and the city of Lyon 500,000 euros, respectively.

Two renowned campuses

These investments have led to the creation of the Gérard Pélisson Campus, which will house the Institute's entire hotel and management section from the start of the new academic year. It took the renovation of the Château de la Roseraie and the construction of two modern wings, designed by Lyon architect Mathias Soulier and named “Audace” and “Innovation”, to create this new centre.
The co-founder of the Institute, Paul Bocuse, remains anchored in the history, but also in the future of the establishment, since the historical campus dedicated to the Culinary Arts becomes the Paul Bocuse Campus. The investment plan is expected to extend over the next five years, giving the Paul Bocuse Campus a new lease on life.

Great ambitions

These two campuses should offer French and international students an environment in which everyone aims for excellence. Here, the objective is to achieve a balance of 50% French students and 50% international students. The Institute also wants to increase the number of international partnerships to 50, to encourage students to live the Lyfe experience abroad.

The ambition is to join the Conférence des Grandes Écoles in the summer of 2023. This ambition is supported by Gilles Pélisson, who is determined to make Institut Lyfe the leading hospitality school in France and internationally.
Among the many projects announced today by Gilles Pélisson and Dominique Giraudier, the following should be noted:
  • The launch of a programme dedicated to wine and beverages,
  • The opening of a business incubator,
  • The move of the bachelor's degree from 3 to 4 years,
  • New partnerships with top chefs to develop new fields of excellence, such as the school of sauces,
  • Work on innovation, such as the use of artificial intelligence,
  • Or the deployment of the hotel-school concept, initiated at the 5* Hotel Le Royal in Lyon, to new hotels…
These are projects that we will be mentioning very soon in an article in the Journal des Palaces dedicated to the Lyfe Institute.
