Grand Hyatt Beijing’s Award-Winning Restaurant, Made in China,
Named to Restaurant Magazine’s Nespresso World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy’s
New Regional Recommendations List

Following the announcement of Restaurant Magazine’s (UK) S. Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards in London on April 21, 2008, Made in China, Grand Hyatt Beijing’s popular northern Chinese restaurant, led by Executive Chef Martin Aw Yong, was selected to the Nespresso World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy’s new Regional Recommendations list.
To establish the World’s 50 Best awards, judges may not vote for more than two restaurants in their own geographical region. This year, the judges were asked to name the next 5 restaurants that they would recommend in their region. Each of the nearly 700 judges of the Nespresso Academy belongs to one of 23 regions returning 23 lists of Regional Recommendations.
The China, Hong Kong & Taiwan 2008 category is represented by Grant Thatcher, who has spent the past eleven years living in Asia writing food, travel and style features for Departures, The Sunday Telegraph, Centurion, Gourmet Traveller, Vogue Entertaining and Travel, South China Morning Post, Bangkok Post and Food & Wine. He founded and is publishing editor of Luxe City Guides, a series of international city style guides.
Made in China, Grand Hyatt Beijing’s internationally acclaimed restaurant, designed with flair by Japanese firm SuperPotato, features specialties from northern China, including Peking Duck and Beggar's Chicken, served in innovative presentations.

The atmosphere is stimulating with the buzz from its diners and the action from its show kitchen. Four glass-walled exhibition kitchens allow guests to witness the city’s finest Peking Duck as it roasts or dumplings being made by hand. Executive Chef Jack Aw Yong’s northern Chinese dishes are always served with creativity.
Made in China offers a new level of entertaining and dining, with elements that are not found in the more traditional Beijing Duck restaurants, such as an excellent wine cellar and an interesting array of desserts to complement its northern Chinese cuisine. Made in China seats 118 guests, and is popular with travelers and locals alike. Reservations are highly recommended for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Grand Hyatt Beijing is located in the prestigious Oriental Plaza, off of Chang An Avenue, offering a myriad of upscale boutiques, and the convenience of a comfortable ten-minute walk to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The 825-room hotel’s distinctively contemporary profile combines western elements with China’s traditional quadrangle architecture. Beijing’s new Olympic stadium is located just a 30-minute drive away from the hotel.
